Kara and Allen

filed in

High school sweethearts, who met on the first day of high school in World History, are getting married!! Kara had a crush on Allen since that very first time they walked into Broughton. Kara was super shy and never got the courage to tell him about her crush. He and a friend were messing around in World History one day and he got his seat moved, right beside her! And the teacher joked that “maybe she’ll be a good influence on you.” After having a few classes together the following years of high school and becoming friends, they went to prom together their Junior year. And officially became boyfriend and girlfriend their senior year. They dated their senior year, but would be going to different colleges. Allen went to ECU and Kara to NC State. Like with any long distance relationships, they went through ups and downs, but they had something special and would always find their way back to each other. About 4.5 years ago, Allen moved back from Greenville and they just picked up where they left off!

On April 3, 2019, Kara’s, who is a teacher at Martin Middle School, assistant principal came in for what she believed to be an observation. He told her they were trying a new procedure and he would be videoing the observation. At around 2:00 she got a call over the loud speaker from my principal saying that she had a visitor. And she thought, who could be coming to visit me 15 minutes before the school day ended on a Wednesday? Just as she was finishing that thought, she felt a hand on her back, it was Allen. He walked in, went right to the front of the class and began talking to her students. All she remembers him saying is “my lesson for you today is that when you find the love of your life, don’t let her go” and he turned around, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! It was a total surprise! It was such an amazing moment not only for the two of them but to also be able to share that with her kids and her team of teachers! Everyone was cheering and crying too! That moment surely will never be forgotten!

Since they met at Broughton, we thought it was a perfect spot for their engagement pictures.
